SeaWave Releases Suite of IT Applications for Remote Fleet Management
SeaWave Remote Management Suite Provides Total Control of Ship Networks and Data from Shore
Middletown, RI, USA - January 3, 2005] - SeaWave builds on the functionality of the Integrator 3.0 product line with
its latest advancement in marine communications - the Remote Management Suite (RMS). RMS is a portfolio of IT tools which
allow shore-side administration of vessel operations with near-zero ship-based intervention. These IT tools streamline vessel
operations by transferring IT responsibilities to land-based IT personnel.
Crews untrained in information technology (IT) are increasingly relied upon for file transfers, system updates, day-to-day
administration and troubleshooting of shipboard PCs and associated systems. "As shipping companies have become increasingly IT
intensive, the crew have struggled to become more technically proficient" said Lawrence Zevon, Technical Product Manager for SeaWave.
"This leads to more time being spent on IT issues and less time for crew members to focus on their primary role. With RMS, land based
IT professionals can initiate a remote session to send/receive reports, upgrade software and troubleshoot without any need for local
intervention."
RMS all but eliminates crew and shore personnel spending hours on a satellite phone troubleshooting and/or updating PCs while underway.
The end result is greater productivity - timely reporting and superior systems control.
SeaWave RMS currently consists of five IT applications which address the various aspects of remote management:
- SeaWave SNAP (SeaWave Network Access Protocol): using SNAP, authorized users in a shore-based office
can securely control computers on board a vessel. The ability to interact with remote computers allows shore-based IT personnel to conduct
training, provide support, and perform maintenance on remote computers. Managing computers remotely results in a tremendous cost savings
since you can resolve technical and/or training issues without the time delay and expense of dispatching IT or training personnel.
- SeaWave SAFE (SeaWave Automatic File Exchange): manages immediate and/or scheduled tasks (e.g.
weekly planned maintenance data exports) and automatic bi-directional file transfer between ship and shore. Export-type tasks can be
launched prior to file dispatch and at the destination. Import-type tasks can be launched immediately after file delivery. All task
output can be monitored for exceptions and reported automatically to shore-based administrators.
- SeaWave SABR (SeaWave Address Book Replication): is an efficient way for an entire fleet to share
the same address list used in the corporate office. When an address is added, edited or removed from the global address list, SeaWave SABR
transmits only those entries which have changed and updates remote copies.
- SeaWave FORM (SeaWave Form Service): is a cost effective way of transmitting data to and from the
vessel or home office. Much of the business and regulatory data sent from ships includes standard documents sent as e-mail attachments and
faxes. With FORM, SeaWave sends only the data and excludes repetitive information on the form, thus improving the efficiency of the
transmission and dramatically lowering cost. Once on shore, the data is reinserted into the proper forms and delivered to the
recipient(s).
- SeaWave STAR (Ship Tracking and Reporting) is an easy-to-use, practical and reliable
Web-based asset tracking tool. Fleet owners and managers can locate, monitor and communicate with all their vessels with a single heads-up
display that features an intuitive interface. STAR can overlay tracking data onto navigational charts. Other features include the capability
to export historical tracking data to common applications such as Microsoft Excel and multi-vessel reporting tracking assets anywhere in the
world at any time desired.
