Regional Installer - Los Angeles, California
Qualified candidates will be responsible for the maintenance, installation and support of all HF and satellite, video, and audio and IP equipment on board commercial vessels.
Critical Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Computer/Hub/Network installations
- TCP/IP and network administration
- Marine HF equipment and/or Satellite Inmarsat and/or Iridium and/or VSAT knowledge and experience
- Perform periodic checks and adjustments to confirm equipment ready for operations and use.
- Ability to operate and understand results from test equipment.
- Read schematics and technical manuals
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- The installation/maintenance of computers and networks as well as telecommunications and associated electronic equipment and wiring per specifications and operational procedures
- An installation will typically consist of installation of a HF Radio, Satellite components or VSAT; installation of a modem/computer component (either customers or Globe-supplied computer); probably a Satellite component, and may times computer network connection.
- Some cable runs may be required; testing system operation and full training of designated ship’s personnel will always be required.
- Candidate will establish and maintain contact with the ships agents specified, and track the vessels arrival to carry out the installation / repair.
Education, Experience, and Job Knowledge
- Qualified candidates will have extensive experience with computers, networking, TCP/IP as well as technical training and experience with Marine HF and/or Satellite equipment; A+ and N+ certification is a definite plus.
- Excellent computer knowledge and ready access to internet is required.
- Must be flexible and willing to adapt to various situations and rotating work schedules. Hours are not fixed; hours are based on vessel arrival and departure schedules.
- Ability to interface in a professional manner with clients and other departments and have a high level of integrity.
- Must be able to carry installation equipment, tools, possible spare parts, work outdoors, use tools for general installation work and climb a ladder.
- Requires practical knowledge and skills in electronics and/or computer disciplines. LAN/WAN and protocols preferred.
- Ability to use hand tools, test equipment and computers
- FCC GROL preferred.
- Be flexible to travel at short notice based on client’s requirements and vessels port schedules.
- Training will be provided to the selected candidate in a regional training center and on board ships.
