Director of VSAT Technology

This is a management level position responsible for VSAT systems with supervisory responsibilities for technical staff assigned to the VSAT department. This position is accountable for ensuring continuity of VSAT services. VSAT services are defined to mean shore systems, ship equipment and installation. Design requirements for ships configuration will include antenna, LNB, BUC, iDirect modem and network implementation.   Additional shipboard equipment will include routers, switches, VPN, VOIP, ships computer network and Globe product such as the i4. Shore equipment shall include equipment co-located at the teleport and VNO equipment located at Globe, specifically iMonitor and VNO servers. All of these areas will require diverse technical knowledge as well as thorough planning, technical leadership, and project coordination

Critical Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Good understanding of current platforms and trends in VSAT technology
  • The ability to fully administer Active Directory, DNS, 2003 Server, DHCP, and related server protocols
  • Linux networking
  • In depth knowledge of network security and firewall technology
  • Switching and routing configuration and protocols / VLAN
  • VPN and WAN configuration and administration
  • VOIP networking and solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, appraising, evaluating and solving problems of a difficult procedural, organizational, administrative or technical nature.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform all supervisory responsibilities associated with the VSAT department
  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with co-workers, and every level of management.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional relationship with suppliers and 3rd party vendors
  • Implement the company goals for the VSAT product as provided by the executive management
  • Contribute to the continuity of VSAT services by providing necessary technical leadership and project coordination.
  • Forecast costs, equipment and personnel needs for projects and programs as required and related to VSAT projects.   This includes shipboard equipment.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in VSAT technology and remain highly technically competent at all levels of related technologies to include networking, VPN and VOIP over the unique VSAT network environment.
  • Prepare long and short-range plans for, systems development, and acquisition of the resources needed to support them. Assures responsiveness of long-range plans to corporate objectives.
Additional Responsibilities for the VSAT Manager:
  • Capture, monitor and analyze VSAT usage data through iMonitor and recommend and implement appropriate traffic profile changes.
  • Assume the leadership role in developing and maintaining a VSAT systems disaster recovery plan.
  • Set up network monitoring tools such as NAGIOS.
Education, Experience, and Job Knowledge
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, electrical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with VSAT and network systems
